Job Corps Task Force to Senator Gregg: Help!

MANCHESTER: New Hampshire's Job Corps Center Task Force is asking U.S. Senator Judd Gregg to prevent a $75 million rescission from Job Corps funding in the upcoming federal budget.

The rescission is contained in President George Bush's federal budget for next year, and would remove $75 million in construction funds for new Job Corps Centers approved by Congress last year.

Task Force Chair Dick Anagnost of Manchester said Senator Gregg has been the New Hampshire congressional delegation's leader on the Job Corps Center project. "Senator Gregg's support for a New Hampshire Job Corps Center has been our best weapon in the campaign, and we're hopeful he will be able to block removal of funds he fought to obtain for Job Corps expansion," said Anagnost.

The Task Force, comprised of over 30 business, civic, political and educational leaders throughout the state, also asked Senator Gregg to preserve the newly acquired independent status of the Office of Job Corps. In last year's U.S. Department of Labor budget, signed just two months ago by President Bush, the agency was removed from the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and made an independent agency within USDOL. Some federal officials object to the new status of Job Corps and are asking Congress to reject what Congress approved last year.
