Job Corps Site To Be Announced

Manchester, NH - Aug 25, 2006 Governor John Lynch, U.S. Senator Judd Gregg, First District Rep. Jeb Bradley and Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta will hold a press conference on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 2 pm at Manchester City Hall to announce the site of a proposed $30 million federally funded New Hampshire Job Corps Center.

New Hampshire's Workforce Opportunity Council and the Job Corps Task Force are submitting the state's proposal for a Job Corps Center in response to a Request for Proposals issued by the U.S. Department of Labor. The proposal is due September 30.

Council Chair Dick Anagnost of Manchester credited Senator Gregg's role in providing New Hampshire with technical assistance from the U.S. Department of Labor, and including the federal funds necessary for a new Center. "Without Senator Gregg, we would not be having this opportunity for a New Hampshire Job Corps Center," said Anagnost.

"Our state's employers need educated and skilled workers to compete in today's global and fast-changing marketplace," said Senator Gregg. "The Job Corps Center will provide the opportunity for those who wish to enter the workforce to acquire the skills needed for tomorrow's jobs."

Anagnost said Governor John Lynch's support for the project has been instrumental, as the proposal requires coordination and collaboration among local and state governments, private industry and a variety of educational institutions.

"I want New Hampshire to be a place of opportunity for all our citizens. A New Hampshire Job Corps Center will offer major new learning alternatives for young people, and a badly needed resource to help train workers for jobs here in New Hampshire," Gov. Lynch said. "New Hampshire is only one of two states in the nation without a Jobs Corps Center. It's time for that to end. In order to have a successful proposal, we have to work together to present the most comprehensive job training proposal possible, that is why I am urging everyone at the state and local level to fully support this project."
