Governor Lynch Pleased With Job Corps Center Award

Gov. John Lynch today applauded the U.S. Department of Labor's approval of a new $30 million, federally-funded Job Corps Center in New Hampshire.

"This is tremendous news for the state of New Hampshire. New Hampshire needs skilled workers if companies are to stay and grow in New Hampshire. This Job Corps Center will be a valuable part of our effort to ensure we have the skilled workers to compete in this global economy," Gov. Lynch said.

"This a great opportunity for New Hampshire. It will help ensure our children have the skills and the education they need to compete, and to live better lives. It will also give our children more opportunities to finish high school, which is one of my top priorities," Gov. Lynch said.

The New Hampshire Job Corps Center proposal, submitted to the US Department of Labor by the Workforce Opportunity Council, is a project that began in 2001 at the request of then-Gov. Jeanne Shaheen.

As part of his continued support for a Job Corps Center in New Hampshire, Gov. Lynch recently spoke to U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao to underscore the state's proposal as the finalists in the competition for awards were being decided.

"I'd like to thank the New Hampshire Workforce Opportunity Council, in particular Michael Power and Dick Anagnost for their leadership in making this happen. And I'd also like to thank our state's congressional delegation for their continued support of this proposal," Gov. Lynch said.
